Online therapy, also known as telemental health, is a growing field. The therapist provides mental health counseling and support over the internet through email, video conferencing, online chat, or a phone call. The delivery of mental health care services is provided through the use of interactive audio and video technology, permitting real-time communication between the client and the provider, for the purpose of diagnosis, consultation, and/or treatment.
Telemental health may be useful for individuals who cannot leave their home, work unconventional hours, have transportation issues, cannot leave work for in-person appointments, or live in rural/remote areas without mental health provider access. It also provides a way to continue therapy in the case of illness, virus outbreak social isolation (such as COVID-19), or client vacation.
I use a HIPAA compliant and secure video platform and secure messaging system to ensure privacy.
Telemental health and tele/video therapy is an excellent option to augment typical in-person therapy or for those who cannot access traditional in-office services.
